Who Are We?

B&L Group brings together highly trained and qualified professionals with diverse backgrounds in project management, planning, procurement, design and implementation of transport infrastructures including major highways, rails and airports, as well as structural design of buildings and other load bearing structures.

B&L Group brings together two consultancy entities:

  1. B&L Management Limited offering Project Management and Quantity Surveying Services with permanent offices in Kenya and Uganda.
  2. B&L Engineering Services Limited offering Engineering Consultancy Services with permanent offices in Kenya and Uganda.

Bernard Mandere
Bernard MandereGroup Managing Director
A former Director of Atkins Africa, responsible for Project Management services and QSSE. He is a Registered Quantity Surveyor with the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (Kenya) with over 32 years’ experience in Project management and Quantity Surveying for civil engineering, buildings and industrial projects in East Africa.
Bernard has successfully provided Project Management services for numerous projects. The most recent ones include Kigeri Utalii City Mixed use development on 202 acres, Wrigley Gum Factory in Mavoko, LSG Sky Chefs Inflight catering facility at JKIA Nairobi, at least 10 capex projects for East African Breweries Limited, Brookside Dairy Factory expansion in Ruiru, Simulator Facility for Kenya Airways Embakasi, Southern Shield Headquarters Building for Fidelity Insurance Company Limited and Equatorial Commercial Bank, several housing projects, bank and retail centres amongst others. He has also carried out Feasibility Studies, Development Appraisals, Cost Engineering, Cost Planning and Control, Claims Management and Disputes Resolution. These attributes equip him to handle large multi-disciplinary projects of any nature.
Bernard has extensive experience in Contracts Administration and Disputes resolution which has been effectively used on projects such as Olkaria 2 Geothermal Power Project for the Client, Olkaria 3 Geothermal Power Project for Orpower 4 Inc., Jumbo Brewery for South African Brewery at Thika and Clinker Grinding Plant for Bamburi Cement at Athi River for Bamburi Cement Limited.
Lawrence Mureithi
Lawrence MureithiGroup Operation Director
Lawrence has over 10 years’ experience in Civil & Structural Engineering services and Construction Project Management, Holds a Masters in Project Planning and Management and a BSc (Hons.) in Civil & Structural Engineering. He is also qualified in Section 1 of Certified Public Accountancy and currently pursuing a Masters in Diplomacy and International Relations.
Formerly a Senior Project Manager with MML Turner & Townsend, a Civil/Structural Engineer & Project Manager with ATKINS and a Graduate Roads Engineer with the Ministry of Roads.
He has been a Key Accounts Manager for some key clients particularly in the real estate sector and these clients have benefited from his dedicated, loyal intellectual and innovative approach for a number of years. Lawrence’s core strength is in improving project outcomes for clients through insightful team leadership, risk mitigation and unique value addition. Not only does Lawrence save clients’ money, but helps them . achieve a performance step-change that they can own and sustain over the long-term.
Lawrence is a highly motivated individual, with specific skills in leadership, contract and stakeholder management, quality assurance and conflict resolution. He is also well versed in the proactive management and successful delivery of mixed use and multiple overlapping construction contracts.
Eng. Silas Nguru
Eng. Silas NguruGroup Head of Infrastructure
Eng. Nguru is a registered Consulting Engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya and an active Corporate Member of Institution of Engineers of Kenya. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s of Science degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Eng. Silas has over 15 years of professional experienced, gained while working with some of the leading engineering consulting firms in the region including Howard Humphreys East Africa Limited, Atkins Consulting Engineers Limited and SMEC International Pty. Eng. Nguru has played key roles in all phases of highway projects development including Team Leadership, Project Manager, Material and Pavement Engineer among other roles. He is well versed with modern computer technology for project delivery including but not limited to professional use of Civil 3D, InfraWorks 360, Microsoft office suite, Microsoft Project, and Global Mapper among others. Eng. Nguru is enthusiastic about talent development for younger engineers.
Eng. Richard Kaburu
Eng. Richard KaburuGroup Head of Property
Eng. Richard is an experienced Civil/Structural Engineering professional with experience in planning, design and construction management in the built environment. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineeringfrom The University of Nairobi and a Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI). He is also a registered Consulting Engineer. Richard’s main area of expertise is the planning and management of multi-disciplinary projects by careful planning and effective management of project stakeholders and project teams to ensure projects are delivered to specified project requirements. Richard has over 22 years of experience in delivering consultancy services across Kenya in real estate, mixed use developments, industrial installations and infrastructure projects that cut across from geothermal power plants to warehouses and housing estates to lifestyle malls. He has worked as a Deputy Service Line Manager at Howard Humpreys EA and Atkins. Richard is versed in the use of various computer applications in the delivery of projects such as AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office.
